Missing or damaged teeth can not only affect your self-confidence, but they can also threaten your remaining teeth. Patients in Brandon, FL, looking to restore their smiles can get guidance and expert treatment from Dr. Trevor Williams at Williams Family & Cosmetic Dentistry. He has years of knowledge and experience treating patients of all ages, and he will partner with you to determine the best treatment for restoring your smile. He will review the benefits of every available restoration and help you decide if removable partial dentures are right for you.
Your teeth work together, supporting one another, as well as your jaw. When teeth are missing or removed, the other teeth are more likely to shift and travel. This can weaken their foundation and potentially lead to the loss of more teeth. At the same time, the longer you chew and speak without a full set of teeth there to support it, the more likely it is that your jawbone will start to erode, leading to what is called a “collapsed” jaw. Restorations such as implants, bridges, full dentures, or partial dentures can effectively restore your smile, providing support for your remaining natural teeth so their underlying structures don’t shift or erode.
Partial dentures are an affordable, effective restoration for missing teeth. The word “dentures” is most commonly associated with full mouth dentures, which replace a full set of teeth. However, partial dentures can be worn when you still have remaining natural teeth, restoring only those missing, preserving as much of your natural bite as possible. Partial dentures are a “light” restoration, requiring no incisions or shots, and they are a great option for patients looking for a simple, affordable solution.
Partial dentures are custom-made to fit your mouth. At your first appointment, Dr. Williams will do a comprehensive examination, familiarizing himself with the structure of your mouth, your bite, and what needs to be restored. Your partial dentures will then be tailored to fit your bite. When they are ready to wear, your dentures will slide into place in your dental arch, situating replacement teeth in the areas where they are needed only, offering support to your remaining teeth and jaw.
When wearing them for long periods, your dentures can be secured using a special dental adhesive. However, partial dentures can be easily removed for cleaning, sliding in, and out as needed.
Unlike other restorations, partial dentures are designed to be comfortably removed for care, maintenance, or personal comfort. Dr. Williams will go over the proper care routine for your partial dentures, but it amounts to little more than your normal dental routine. With routine brushing, flossing, and regular check-ups with Dr. Williams, your dentures can last many years.
Dr. Trevor Williams specializes in a wide range of dental restorations for patients with many symptoms. If you have missing teeth or need to have teeth extracted, Dr. Williams will discuss the options available and help you determine if partial dentures are right for you.
