Crowded or crooked teeth are a common occurrence, and if left untreated they can become worse over time. You may not have associated straight teeth with oral health in the past, but straighter teeth are easier to clean and protect. Straight teeth allow less stress on the teeth when chewing. This will help protect your teeth for years to come, as well as give you a good looking smile. In the past, bracket braces were the most effective solution for aligning teeth. However, Invisalign’s revolutionary new clear aligner trays can offer the same results with less visibility and less physical discomfort.
Each Invisalign system is custom-tailored to suit the individual needs of each patient. Invisalign uses advanced imaging to develop a personalized system of removable take-home plastic trays, each of which represents an incremental shift that will slowly move your teeth into alignment. To maximize results, the trays should be left it in at all times, but they can be removed for eating, drinking, or cleaning.
Dr. Trevor Williams at Williams Family & Cosmetic Dentistry in Brandon, Florida is a board-certified dentist with years of experience providing patients of all ages with Invisalign treatment. He’s knowledgeable about the process and can offer critical advice and guidance throughout your treatment, monitoring your progress to help you achieve the best possible results.
If you are a good candidate for Invisalign, Dr. Williams will begin by taking an impression of your teeth. He’ll also take x-rays to get a comprehensive view of your jaw. Those images will be sent to Invisalign, where they will manufacture a system of personalized plastic trays, tailored to your specific needs.
Once your trays are prepared, Dr. Williams may adhere small anchors to a few specific teeth. These will aid in correction and help keep the Invisalign trays in place. He’ll talk you through the maintenance of your trays and show you how to easily remove and replace them by hand. Over the course of treatment, you will come in for quick check-ups with Dr. Williams, who can chart your progress and confirm the correction is going smoothly. An effective alignment can take 6 to 8 months on average, although more extreme cases may take longer.
