Almost everyone will experience tooth loss at some point. It’s an unfortunate aspect of growing older. When this happens to you, you’re likely going to be eager to restore the beautiful smile you previously had. Fortunately, Dr. Trevor Williams offers different types of dentures to restore your smile to where it once was.
Quality dentures that look natural blend three ingredients: Art, science, and experience. Creating dentures is a delicate dance between science and artistry, with plenty of experience thrown in.
Every person has different needs when it comes to tooth replacement. When you come to Dr. Williams’ office for your tooth replacement consultation, the team will discuss three types of dentures with you, depending on your unique needs: Full dentures, partial dentures, and implant-supported dentures.
These dentures can replace one or more teeth in your dental arch. Partials are designed to slide over the dental arch into place, using false teeth where they’re needed for filling in gaps. Partial dentures are easily removable and can be adjusted as needed.
Complete dentures replace all of your natural teeth in the lower or upper arches or both. Full dentures are made with acrylic and look very natural. Natural suction, dental adhesives, or dental implants can all hold full dentures in place.
Implant-supported dentures use dental implants to serve as anchors for your dentures. The implants keep dentures from slipping when you eat or speak.
Patients who properly care for their dentures can expect them to last five years or more. Every five years, your dentures will need to be evaluated so your dentist can ensure they’re still strong and functional. When you visit your dentist to have your dentures examined, they will make any necessary adjustments or begin a replacement plan.
To ensure your dentures fit you well, you can try a denture adhesive. While modern dentures don’t require adhesives, if you’re having trouble, this can be an easy solution. Also, when you clean them, be sure to use warm water, not hot water. Very hot water can cause your dentures to warp, which results in an incorrect fit.
