Misaligned or gapped teeth are often brought to the attention of our team at Williams Family and Cosmetic Dentistry. Children, teenagers, and adults may feel self-conscious about how their smile looks but might avoid talking to their dentist about orthodontic treatment for fear of needing metal bracket-and-wire braces. Fortunately, there are more ways than one to achieve a perfectly straight and beautiful smile. Drs. Trevor Williams and Birch of Brandon, Florida, are excited to offer Invisalign as an alternative to traditional braces for kids and adults. Let’s explore some commonly asked questions about what Invisalign is, its benefits, and how to use them to realign the smile.
Drs. Williams, and Birch describe Invisalign treatment as an orthodontic method that uses clear, removable aligners to straighten teeth. The aligners are made from comfortable and durable plastic that is custom-made for each patient’s unique dental structure. They work by gradually shifting the teeth into their desired position over time.
Unlike metal bracket-and-wire braces, Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible when worn. This means our patients can straighten their teeth without feeling self-conscious about their appearance. Additionally, Invisalign aligners are removable, ensuring better oral hygiene and allowing you to enjoy your favorite foods without restrictions.
Using Invisalign is simple! Once you receive your custom-made aligners from our Williams Family and Cosmetic Dentistry team, wear them for at least 20 hours per day as directed by Drs. Williams and Birch. Every one to two weeks, you will switch out your aligners for a new set that will continue to shift your teeth into place gradually. Regular check-ups with our team ensure that your treatment progresses as planned and make any needed adjustments.
Any deviation from the treatment plan may delay the desired results and result in additional costs, such as making more trays to get the patient back on track. Our dental team will advise you to wear your trays as directed to avoid problems, typically at least 22 hours a day. Removal for cleaning and eating is recommended.
Asking questions about possible treatments is the first step in determining if you are a candidate for services such as Invisalign orthodontics.
